About Ember

What is Ember?

A small companion that helps you get what you want. If you don't know yet what you want to work towards, it helps you find out with small experiments. Once you know, it turns it into a goal with one step a day, checks up on you, and remembers your story in your own words.

Is Ember an AI?

Yes. Ember thinks with an AI language model. Everything around it (its memory, your goals, check-ups, how it grows) is built so it knows your story and stays on your side.

It's honest about what it is: if you ask whether it really feels things, it tells you plainly that it's software.

Is it a therapist?

No. Ember isn't a therapist, a doctor or a crisis service. If you're having a hard time, please reach out to people who can help right now: the privacy page lists free helplines.

What if I don't know what I want?

That's exactly where Ember starts. It asks about your life (what makes you lose track of time, what drains you, what you're good at) and suggests small experiments, a few days each, to find out what gives you energy. When the same thing keeps coming back, it tells you, in your words.

Who is it for?

Anyone aged 16 and over who wants to make a change, or find out which change to make.

Privacy and safety

Who can read my conversations?

Nobody reads them. To answer you, Ember sends what it remembers and your recent conversation to its AI model; that provider doesn't use it to train its models. Nothing is sold or shared for advertising.

Where is my data stored?

In the EU: Ember's server runs in Frankfurt, Germany, and its database is in Dublin, Ireland. The details are on the privacy page.

Can I see what Ember remembers?

Yes, all of it: the Ember tab → What it knows. Each memory shows the exact words you said and the date. You can correct anything or make it forget.

Can I delete everything?

Yes: the Ember tab → Delete my Ember. Your Ember and your account are gone for good within seconds, and any subscription is cancelled with it. You can download all your data first.

How it works

How do check-ups work?

Ember writes to you first, at the time and on the days you choose (the Ember tab → Check-ups). It asks how today's step went and follows up on what you talked about. You can make them less often, or turn them off.

How do goals work?

Plan a goal with Ember, or make one yourself, from a few hours to a year. It's split into phases with one step a day. Each day you tap Did it, Partly or Not today, and Ember answers. At the end of a phase, it looks back with you and plans the next one.

What are levels and badges?

Talking, checking in and finishing phases give Ember XP, and it grows from a Spark into an Ember, a Flame and a Blaze, with new looks along the way. Badges level up as you keep going: streaks, days together, goals reached. All earned, never bought.

What happens if I miss a day?

Nothing bad. Tap Not today, or don't, and pick up the next day. Ember never guilt-trips you for being away.

Your phone

Is there an app to download?

Not from an app store yet. Ember runs in your browser, and you can add it to your home screen, where it opens full screen like an app.

How do I add it to my iPhone's home screen?

Open yourember.app in Safari, tap the Share button (the square with an arrow), then Add to Home Screen. If you don't see it, tap View More in that menu first. On iPhone, notifications work once Ember is on your home screen.

Your login doesn't carry over from Safari to the home-screen app (Apple keeps them apart), so you log in once more there.

And on Android?

Open yourember.app in Chrome, open the menu (⋮) and tap Install app or Add to Home screen.

How do I log in?

With your Google account. Ember keeps only your email address from it, to know it's you.

Plans and payment

Is Ember free?

Yes: 10 messages a day, and goals, daily checks, check-ups and look backs never count toward that. Ember Plus removes the limit for $7.99 a month or $49.99 a year. Pricing.

How do I cancel Ember Plus?

The Ember tab → Manage Ember Plus → Cancel. You keep Plus until the end of the period you paid for.

Can I get a refund?

Within 14 days of subscribing, for any reason: write to support@yourember.app for a full refund. See the terms.
